Ottawa Medical Venturers MEDVENT or Medical Venturers is a co-ed vocational program that exposes youth in the region to the career opportunities in the emergency services industry through practical learning initiatives. Since it’s inception in the spring of 2002, the Medical Venturer (MedVent) program has focused on youth who are interested in exploring the career opportunities related to paramedicine. The program is built upon traditional Scouts Canada program elements (leadership, citizenship, community service, personal development, and growth.), and the development of knowledge of the operations of an emergency medical system and the practical skills that paramedics and first responders utilize in their daily work. The program was launched as a partnership between the Scouts Canada - Voyageur Council and the Ottawa Paramedic Service. As part of the special operations division, the Ottawa Paramedic Service sponsors and supports the Unit by providing for orientation, training, uniforms, equipment, and opportunities to deploy and provide first-aid / first response at a variety of community events.
